Information for Helpers

How can I help?

There are several ways to help with the running of the group.

Become a Leader

We are always looking for leaders to assist with running the individual sections.  If you like children and want to make a positive contribution to their development then a role as a leader will provide the ideal opportunity for you.  The Scouting organisation provide full training for leaders based on the section that you want to join and the role that you want to train for.  The courses take the form of 1 ˝ to 2 Hour seminars usually at local scout headquarters.  Once a course has been attended, you will need to validate the course by demonstrating that you have applied the knowledge and skills you have learnt.  All of this is carried out whilst helping the section leader.  Before starting your training you will need to complete (and pass) a CRB check and attend an appointments panel interview which lasts around 15 minutes.

Become a registered helper

In order to become a registered helper you will need to attend a couple of courses on the movement and pass a CRB check. Registered helpers are those who assist several times a term.

Become a parent representative on the Group Executive

As a registered charity we need to have representatives of the parents of all section members.  Committee meetings are held on average every 2 months and we discuss funding and activities at committee meetings along with issues facing the group as  a whole.

Help out at Section Meetings as a Parent Helper

Help us by helping out at the section meetings – there are normally lists on each section’s notice board asking for assistance.

Help out at Fund-Raising events

Support the section by offering your time to assist us with running major events and sponsored activities.

Sign a Gift-Aid declaration

If you are a UK Tax payer we can claim extra money from the Inland Revenue if you sign a Gift-aid certificate! Money for nothing really.

Attend Group Events

Make sure you attend any events that we organise to raise funds – each pound we raise is used to keep the hut running and sections equipped!
