cu-cl-pos.gif             Welcome to the Home Page of the 1st Pinhoe Cubs Group

Who are we?

The Cubs are organised in Sixes with a different colour for each six.  Each Six has a Sixer and a Seconder who are normally older cubs and who help the younger members of their six to perform activities and develop their skills ready for promotion within the section.  Cubs have always been organised around the characters of Rudyard Kilpling’s Jungle Book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jungle_Book). Our leaders are named Akela, Balloo and Bagheera.

What do we do?

We meet on Monday nights between 6:45 and 8:15 pm. Every half of a term there is a inter-six competition which includes points for inspection, behaviour when at events, general knowledge quizzes and the like.  The winning Six is presented with the Golden Woggle for the next half-term. During every term there is a theme and we all work towards badges.  In Summer 2009 we are doing our adventure badge and athletes badge and we will be holding our end of term event (“It’s a Knockout”).

Over the past year we have had our pack camp (in Somerset) with a medieval theme and a Young Cubs Camp with a Viking theme.  Our Sixers and Seconders had a weekend away on Dartmoor and we have had several practical activities including cub-car racing, bridge and gate building, and open-fire cooking.  At Christmas we had our “Pinhoe’s got Talent” evening with our own Leona Lewis, several Jake-the-pegs and a lot of dwarves (without Snow White!)  We have also visited the Middlemoor Police Station, the Countesswear Sewage Treatment Works and been to Dawlish Warren.

What does it cost?

The section Subscription cost (subs) are £25.00 for each term

I’m convinced, what do I have to do?

As part of the process of joining the pack, you will be invited along to a few meetings to check that you want to go ahead and join and also to show you what we do.  We do have certain ceremonies that occur as part of each meeting.  We have the Grand howl, the flag break and the dismissal. If you join the pack you will be invested into the pack and asked to make a promise and obey the cub scout law.  This promise commits you to –

“Do your best, Do your duty to God and to the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Cub Scout Law”.

The Cub Scout Law asks you to -

“Always do your best, think of others before yourself and do a good turn every day.”
