Welcome to the Home Page of the 1st Pinhoe
Beavers Group
Who are we?
We are the youngest section of the 1st Pinhoe Scout Group.
Beaver Scouting in Pinhoe provides the first opportunity for young boys
and girls (6 & 7 years old) to join the world of Scouting. When they reach
the age of 8 the Beavers will be invited to move up to our Cub Scout section.
What do we do?
We meet together as a Colony (no,
not a rabble!) on Tuesday evenings (6pm – 7.15pm) during term time and we
sometimes get together at the weekends for extra activities. We usually meet at
the Scout Hut in Langaton Lane although when better weather and lighter
evenings allow we will meet at various outdoor venues.
There are three adult Scout Leaders
running the Colony on a regular basis: Chris Bisby, Brian Stone and Tracy
Tamlin. Several of the childrens' parents also help out from time to time on a
rota.
Our aim is to provide a balanced
programme of activities with the intention that there is something for everyone
and with the emphasis being very much on fun. There will be lots of games to
play (some old favourites and some new). There will be craft evenings when the
Beavers can put their creative skills and imagination to the test, and there
will be outdoor activities, particularly in the summer months. By regularly
attending our weekly meetings, Beavers earn badges relating to particular
activities or topics which we have been following.
After a few weeks with us and once
your child has settled in, they will be invested. This is when he or she
officially becomes a member of the Colony and more widely of the Scout
Association. At a short ceremony, at the end of a meeting, they will make their
Promise and will receive their scarf and first badges.
We have a Moto which summarizes what
our section is all about:
Beavers, Beavers, Fun and Friends
Our Promise, which we say at each
meeting, is:
I
promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
and to love God

It is important for you and in
particular your child to realize that a Beaver Scout is expected to do their
best (it is part of his Promise). That said, we are all individuals with
different interests and levels of ability and therefore a child will be judged
not so much on how well they have done but on how hard they have tried.
What Does it Cost ?
Subscriptions (subs) are currently £30 per term. In
addition, for all new members to the Group there is a “joining fee” of £5.00
payable no later than 4 weeks after joining. This is a one off payment and
therefore will not be requested again when your child moves to other sections.
